I remember when home depot announced around the turn of the century that around 170 of their stores would be open 24 hours.
I don't know of any of those 24 hour stores still open 24 hours.

That would have been real convenient in my younger days but now I keep old fart hours like most everyone else.

I think the Home Depot located near Decatur was 24 hours at some point a few years ago, but I don't think it is now. I think a few other locations inside or near 285 were 24/7 some years ago.

I believe the 24/7 retail is mostly select Walmarts that are not out in the outter suburbs (bedroom communities). Most businesses cannot justify 24/7, not enough people shop at night or overnight in many areas of Atlanta, especially in most sleepy suburbs.

I worked at Home Depot's corporate office when they opened the first 24 hour store in NYC. There were a handful in Atlanta at the peak of the 24 hour experiment, but it was not a profitable endeavor in any of the stores. They all eventually went back to regular hours, opening early in the am because they get a lot of contractor business in the early hours.

Why does Home Depot roll back from closing at 10 to closing at 9 when the clocks go back? Are that many people really affected by the time change?

Out here, Lowes does it. They go from 10pm to 8pm!!
They say they have a season where people get out and shop late but when fall rolls around, people go back to hibernating. Maybe that's why Florida is different In Florida, the garden centers are open year round but here they remove everything from them and pack them full of Wastemas trees.

I didn't know that they adjust the hours like that...are you sure? That would be strange if they did.

They did last year.

I remember going to a different location that was open until 10p and commenting that I wish the HD by my house was open that late. The cashier told me they just extended their hours to 10p because the clocks moved forward and all the stores should have done it. She was right, the one by my house was then open until 10p. I hope they don't go back to 9p when the clocks go back.

That's the dumbest hours strategy ever. Talk about confusing your customers. Taco Mac has it right. They are not allowed to close before 2am ever, even if they haven't had a customer since 11p. They're right to do that.

Those are the current hours, yes, but not the hours they opened with. My hunch is that those facts from Wikipedia (which isn't the best source of info anyway) are mutually exclusive of one another. Yes, it opened in 2002. Its current hours (from its web site) are...

Anyway, I clearly remember most major shopping venues regardless of distance to the attractions being open until 10. I have plenty of friends who still live there that can vouch for me.

Well, they aren't open that late anymore...I looked up several Orlando malls and they all close at 9 pm as of today.
