I am considering a move to Atlanta for a job in downtown Atlanta. I have found a few homes that I'm interested in that are in the Austell area. How bad of a commute would this be? I am single and have no children, so schools are not an issue. If Austell is not the best option, please let me know some other areas that are safe for a single woman.

Granted it will be a different lifestyle, but you might like Vinings better. There will be more singles in the area.

Austell has nice neighboring areas. Mableton, Smyrna etc. Just don't move on six flags drive

Austell is generally ok, if a bit far away from the interstate. You may also want to consider other areas along the East/West Connector between Austell and Atlanta (northern Mableton, southern Smyrna, and Vinings).
Keep your eyes open in the Austell area for signs of past flood damage, though ... parts of that area were really hammered a few years ago because there are three different creeks that con verge in that area, and there were a fair number of subdivisions that were impacted.

Be prepared for the traffic tie once you get into Downtown to connect to 75/85 north. It's generally back up daily.

If you are new to the Atlanta area, I would rent short term and then buy later. You might like another area of town better. If you haven't, you should try a practice commute to see how it is anyway before deciding to live there.
