I may be getting a job offer from a company in Atlanta, GA in the next week or so and was wondering if anyone had any suggestions for where to move?

I am single with two cats, a dog, and a guinea pig (yes, they will all be coming with me). I will be unable to purchase a home, so I am looking at rentals that would accept me and the "kids" without hassle. I will be coming from Nevada.

I did my senior project in Newnan (1987) and fell in love with that place. I have wanted to get back there if I could. Last time I was back for a family reunion was 2005 (so, it's been a while). Most of the relatives are now gone, but were in Northern Georgia.

From what I remember, public transportation wasn't the greatest from Newnan to Atlanta (you would require a car). I would prefer to get closer so I could take public transportation into the job (less reliance on my car).

Any suggestions that would be safe for such a situation? Please let me know. Thanks!

Kind of hard to give any meaningful suggestions without knowing what sort of budget you're working with.

Also, whether or not public transportation is feasible will depend on exactly where this new job is located.

I was looking for general suggestions of areas that would be close to public transportation, would be safe for a single female, and would allow my animals. I realize that may be general in nature, but it would eliminate areas that are not close to public transportation and are not the safest areas for me. I'm not sure if I want to look in Atlanta proper or outside the city limits.

I cannot tell you any more about budgets, etc. until I get the offer. I just know that they have posted a range of salary that goes from roughly $43,000 to $75,000. I have no idea what they may offer me for a salary but if you insist, then I must estimate the $43,000.

The company is located on Washington Street, S.W.

I have read through some of the posting that you reference, but most of it deals with issues I'm not interested in (e.g. purchasing a house, having kids to worry about, etc.). That's how come I decided to start a new post on my specific question.

Again, I am interested to find out what areas that people would recommend for my specific needs. I can do plenty of research on my own once I know the areas that might be of interest to me.

Thanks!

I would love to, but I don't want to be reliant on my car so much. From what I could tell from the MARTA site, they do have a bus that runs down that way and goes to Atlanta. I couldn't seem to find out much information about public transportation from there to Atlanta. I do love Newnan though!

We don't need to know your salary, but how much you want to pay for rent (ballpark) might help. We aren't trying to be nosy, but your question is really broad and could include literally hundreds of different communities in the Atlanta area. Rental apts and homes that accept pets are all over the place, but it's typically on a case by case basis.

If you want something close to public transportation, check out the MARTA schedules and maps. There are also commuter buses (http://www.grta.org/commuter_options/home.htm - broken link) that buses run as far south as Newnan, but can take a long time to get downtown, so check the run times and decide how early you want to get up.

The best county in Atlanta is the one that meets your needs - that is too general of a question. There are very happy and satisified residents in each of the counties.

What do you want from the county you live in?

I think Cobb County is one pocket of relative sanity in the Atlanta metro, for example, but others might disagree.
