I will be living in decatur soon and commuting to midtown for my child's daycare. I did the N decatur to e rock springs to morningside. And there was alot of stop and go - it didnt seem like the right route. Any other suggestions?

I have often taken this route with no trouble. Where do you pick up N Decatur?
Another route I sometimes take is:
Ponce de Leon to Lullwater (right)
Lullwater to the By Way (left)
By Way to Briarcliff (right)
Briarcliff to Briarwood (left)
Briarwood to Hancock (right)
Hancock to Amsterdam (left)
Amsterdam to Monroe; right to Piedmont, left to 10th St.

I suppose it depends on which part of Decatur you're coming from. I take a very similar route to the one LovinDecatur posted to commute between Lake Claire and Midtown. Another route I've used is to take DeKalb Ave -> Elizabeth St -> Edgewood Ave -> Randolph St -> Irwin St -> Piedmont Ave -> Piedmont and then take Piedmont north. DeKalb Ave is usually very quick although about once a month it will get backed up, which is why I switched to the Morningside/Ansley Park route.

Not sure the best route for you, but the route you took (N Decatur / E Rock Springs) will be particularly stop-and-go when school starts back.

Most certainly around Morningside Elementary. Another irritant is the Tuesday AM trash pickup on E Rock Springs, which can really back up the traffic. And do you think that they would consider pulling onto a side street to allow the traffic to flow again? Oh, Nooooooooooo...

I will be living off of sycamore dr - near the intersection of scott and N Decatur. so I will be coming from there. I need to get to midtown because my daycare will be there. The worst part was all of that stop and go on e rock springs, morningside and piedmont. I can see though that N decatur will be bad.

I went scott to coventry to clifton to N decatur - (that was alot to do as well).

Just need to find the route that will get me there the fastest leaving at 7:30am in the mornings to midtown

Any other suggestions? Is there another forum or somewhere else I can look for commute routes?

You can always take Marta if your work isn't to far from the station

How long is it taking you currently? I live near that intersection also, although I am usually headed toward Buckhead rather than midtown that time of day. So far we have not really found a magic bullet

If you have an iPhone there's a new app that is free and gives real time traffic and alternate routes to avoid traffic. Might be worth a shot. I don't know if I am allowed to name the app, but I learned of it in CNN's "carmaggedon" coverage.
