Well, it's a bit further than 30 minutes (more like 45-60 during rush hour) but Paulding County has some areas still like that. Try looking around the Dallas, GA area. And hey, they even have a Bigfoot out there, too that people see from time to time in those remote lot locations! (bigfoot thread: ParaResearch - Strange Creatures (Cryptozoology) )

Check out Douglas County and the Chattahoochee Hill Country in South Fulton County.

There's really one thing you need to realize before you do this... any and I mean ANY area that is within 30 minutes of Atlanta that is wooded and rural(ish) is under Atlanta's gun. Meaning, it's only a matter of time before you will have a super Wal-mart and 6 shopping centers within blocks of your home.

When I moved out to Powder Springs 12 years ago it was the sticks. Acres of trees and you'd see deer in your front yard in the morning. All of those trees are gone now, and within 1/2 miles of my house in any direction are 2 shopping centers, a Home Depot, banks, "ranch condos", a 4 lane highway, and more being built. Needless to say, no deer. Likewise, just up the road in Hiram (Paulding), a few years ago there was a Wal-mart and Kmart but little else. There are now over 60 stores, several shopping centers and more under construction, and a Best Buy and Circuit City about to open. It looks like a mini Buford Highway - in just over 3 years.

If you're a sci fi watcher and ever watched Star Trek - Atlanta could best be described as "The Borg". They reach out, take over, and "assimilate" areas into the collective. If you're not a watcher of that, just know that any place you find now that is "rural(ish)" within 30 minutes of the city WILL be developed within the next few years.

You would have to move to perhaps the Dahlonega area (70 miles North) in order to get away from most of it all, and even then there will be some risk of it.
