My job recently relocated to downtown and my husband works off Sugarloaf Parkway. We are looking for a 4 bedroom home with 1/4 acre or more in the $300-400 price range.

Any advise on which neighborhoods to look at in Dunwoody or Sandy Springs? We would consider Peachtree Corners. What kind of commute times should we expect?

Any information would be appreciated!

Hey. What is your definition of "best"? Without knowing what you desire in a neighborhood (i.e. school district, etc.), I'll give you neighborhoods that I define as the best for those areas and in those price ranges.

FYI, my definition of best is:
1.) Traditional acrchitectural style is dominant (i.e. not many ranches or split levels)
2.) A swim and tennis facility within walking distance

Dunwoody
Withmere/Dunwoody Club Forest
1819 Withmere Way, Atlanta, GA 30338 MLS# 4042948 - Zillow
5560 Woodsong Trl, Atlanta, GA 30338 MLS# 4055380 - Zillow
Wyntercreek
5285 Wyntercreek Dr, Dunwoody, GA 30338 MLS# 4115213 - Zillow
Georgetown/Chateau Woods
1635 Old Spring House Ln, Dunwoody, GA 30338 MLS# 4170396 - Zillow

Sandy Springs/Dunwoody Panhandle
Four Seasons
8155 Winged Foot Dr, Atlanta, GA 30350 MLS# 4048736 - Zillow
North Springs
7165 Dunhill Ter NE, Atlanta, GA 30328 MLS# 4172281 - Zillow
Deerfield East
7690 Blandford Pl, Atlanta, GA 30350 MLS# 4170171 - Zillow

Peachtree Corners
Neely Farm
6051 Endden Ct, Norcross, GA 30092 MLS# 4179371 - Zillow
Amberfield
5480 Amberfield Dr, Norcross, GA 30092 - Zillow
Peachtree Station
5830 Clinchfield Trl # 0, Norcross, GA 30092 MLS# 02895237 - Zillow

I'd say your looking at a commute around 30-40 minutes. Obviously it's going to be less for you if you pick Sandy Springs, and more if you pick Peachtree Corners. But all three are great locations.

I went to my friend's parents house in Norcross last week for dinner. Their house was located in River Station. Very beautiful neighborhood, and it's on the river. Not sure about the housing prices. Appeared to be constructed in the 1980s.

Sandy Springs is my preference but we are having a hard time finding the house we want in the price range. Any idea what the commute time would be from Sandy Springs to Sugarloaf Parkway?

Thanks for the feedback! Very helpful...

Well, if you are talking souther Sandy Springs (Riverside HS) then you would have to take 285/85, which seems like it could be a total bear. If you are open to the Dunwoody Panhandle, which is basically the area near Dunwoody Country Club, but actually in SS, then there are some backroad routes to get you to Sugarloaf without getting on an interstate (cutting over to Gwinnett via Spalding). Same goes for Dunwoody.

I am not sure about the 285 portion of Sandy Springs to Sugarloaf, but I can tell you once your husband is on 85 North the traffic isn't too bad (I am on 285 for one to two exits and then take 85N around 8AM, and my commute past Sugarloaf is 30 minutes).

Coming home 85 south isn't bad, but 285 seems like it may be, I take a route that doesn't involve 285 home (though not towards Sandy Springs, or I'd give specifics).

Default Sandy Springs is GREAT!

We've been in Sandy Springs for 4-5 years now and love it. We can walk to almost anything. Both 400 and 285 are easily accessible. The city's new incorporation is great -- we now see cops patrolling our neighborhood all the time. Although there is the occasional renter, most homes are occupied by long term residents who keep up with their properties. These long term residents have helped Sandy Springs homes retain their value better than most other areas in the city. Great food and shopping are all within seconds from almost anywhere in Sandy Springs. Driving to Sugarloaf would not be fun although if you lived in Sandy Springs, you'd be going against traffic which would make it more reasonable.
