I don't think either Yellowstone or Yosemite has a monadnock that can go toe to toe with Stone Mountain.

For me it just depends on what I want to do. I can easily incorporate Piedmont Park into a long run from my house, or a bike ride. It's a great venue for music and chilling around at a picnic and people watching. And some nice festivals.

Stone Mountain Park...well, I never go to the cheesy village or light show. Those things I would rather scrap altogether (I know they're big tourist trap money bags so that will never happen) and keep the museum and trails and outdoor rec. It's a nice place to go for a medium distance run, especially if you try to run up the mountain.

But I think I prefer Red Top Mountain and Kennesaw Mountain for trail running. And Unicoi State Park has both great running trails and a really fun mountain biking trail. So, I prefer all of those to Stone Mountain. But Stone Mountain is closer.

Do they need one? I agree that Stone Mountain is pretty cool in its own way. My friends called it the "Confederate Wailing Wall" when I first visited Atlanta back in the mid-90's, though...
