Hi, all. I am new to the forum and have a question for those who have lived in Midtown.

I am thinking about moving from the suburbs to Midtown in order to accommodate a recent job opportunity, and I am looking at a few housing options. Could anyone recommend upscale complexes in Midtown that offer apartments (studio or 1 br) at $1000-$1200 and offer an exceptional place to live? I am considering Windsor Apartments on 14th St. at the moment, and everything meets the standards that I have for a community except that, while they present themselves as a 'luxury apartment complex', the rooms are carpeted. O_O I love the building and the architectural choices at Windsor, but is there anything else in the area with at least hardwoods and perhaps a more attractive living space? I do not mind an older building as long as it is well kept and clean. Aesthetics are just as important to me as location. I would prefer something farther west than Virginia Highlands, but I am looking there as well.

Here is some background information to help facilitate responses: I am a straight, single, white male with no children, looking for a location at least relatively close to work (near 14th & Juniper). I have a car, but I would prefer to be able to walk or bike to work at least when the weather is nice. As I mentioned, the most important features for potential housing are an upscale community, good location near my work, and aesthetics (preferably classically inspired, but at least not a dull, lifeless building and apartment absent any particular character). Thanks for whatever help you can offer!

Any other general comments about things to know before moving to Midtown would be equally appreciated. Thanks, again!

If you want hardwood, you might see if there are any units for rent at nearby condo buildings. You would have better luck getting a hard floor. The area at 14th is the same area I live in, and I love it. I can walk to so many places, marta is behind the arts center, and there are some really great places to eat. Starbucks is right there at colony square and there is another one right down 14th. Highland bakery is at 14th and Cresent and they serve breakfast, baked goods and great sandwiches (great grilled cheese).

Midtown mile girl,

Thanks for your reply. Since you live in the area, could you tell me a bit about the noise level at night? What is the traffic like there after 9 or so? It seems like the area has a lot going on but that it is probably busiest during the day. What about the night club and lounge near 13th and Crescent? Do they generate a lot of noise? Thanks for your help!

Traffic is busiest during the day. I am assuming you are talking about Opera nightclub-you shouldn't be concerned with noise from there since you would not be living next door. I would rent a unit facing towards the park to get the quietest unit. The hotel W has a nightclub, but I have not heard any noise complaints from that. You may hear the occasional yell from a party animal, but it's not really a problem.
It's really a great location, and since you are renting you can always move if it's too much for you.
If you use facebook, friend MidtownATL and The High Museum to keep up with some of the stuff going on down here.

Default Thanks, again

Thanks for your continued help! Would you mind letting me know the complex you live in? I am re-assessing my attitude toward apartment shopping, but location is still extremely important to me. Any place in the vicinity of 14th & Juniper (walking or biking distance) is on my radar now. I would just prefer a place that is not extremely noisy. Whatever you can offer on your apartment building would be much appreciated. Thanks, again!

I live in a condo that I own, I do not rent, so my apartment knowledge is somewhat limited. Some of the other posters here have suggested a company called Promove which is an apartment finder service. Also a real estate agent may know of condos for rent. Some of the condo buildings that have a concierge (front desk person) you could call and ask if they know of anything available in their building.
