yes, it was Katz's but not the same as Katz's on the Lower East Side of NY. It probably was the closest thing Atlanta had to a real NY deli though.
I miss that place! Maybe someone will get a hankering to open a deli after reading these posts!!

You all know that the Rascal House is closing in Miami, right? Even in New York, its getting harder to find a good corned beef sandwich. Don't take it as such a big deal if you can't find one in Atlanta!

Reading the comments brought back a lot of memories. I just moved here from FLA and was searching for good deli. I grew up on Rascal House and Pumpernick's too. I can't believe they are gone. Even the one in Boca closed up too. It's so hard to get a good corned beef sandwich and pickles on the table. I have resorted to making my own hot corned beef and buying bah tempte pickes in the jar. Every few weeks, I go crazy if I can't get my "deli" fix. I will try some of the places suggested. Thanks.

I second Goldberg's. They make their bagels on site. As a kid, I use to eat one of their Po Boys all the time. The baguette was always nice a crusty.

The other recommendation would be Royal Bagel in Toco Hills. Here is a review on the restaurant Bagel Palace Deli & Bakery | AccessAtlanta (http://www.accessatlanta.com/restaurants/content/restaurants/neighborhoods/stories/2007/11/27/nosh_1129.html - broken link)

Don't get me started on Goldbergs. It's tolerable. But wait a day and you could pass it off to the Thrashers for a hockey puck.

Okay so it is not a Jewish deli but Capozzis on Roswell Rd near Sears/Old Kmart is the closest thing I have found to a Northern NJ/New York deli. Bagelicious is also pretty good.
