NYC, Boston, and Chicago are more segregated than Alabama

That's good to know. I live in Gwinnett and it is extremely integrated.

No surprise here. But still try to convince them ignorant Yankees that it's true!

As an aside, I was home visiting my parents in Fayetteville over the weekend. At their BAPTIST church on Sunday morning, the pastor had five members stand up and read the Christmas Story in their native languages: East Africa, Nigeria, Colombia, China and Korea. It was very moving. That kind of stuff doesn't happen just everywhere. The true melting pot that Metro Atlanta has become is very unique -- and special.

Not to be a Debbie downer, but I know that in the city proper, you've got some gentrification going on that's contributing to this trend. I can't help but wonder if this will turn out to be permanent or if it's merely a snapshot that's occurring in the middle of another shift that's taking place, namely more Whites moving to the city and more (poor) Blacks moving to the 'burbs.

From what I understand, the census data looked at integration across the cities and their suburbs, not just the city proper.

I think it's safe to say that the trend will continue. Gentrification by middle class whites into the city proper started happening in the early 90s, then exploded in the 2010s. The more recent trend is seeing that grouped joined by middle class blacks and asians too. All around, I don't see any major demographic shift in terms of who is moving into the city of Atlanta in the coming decades.

That would only intensify things.

Now the latter is what I'm not yet seeing, particularly as far as Blacks go. I have yet to see some evidence of that. It still appears as though Black middle/upper class families are choosing the 'burbs over the city, and poor Blacks are being forced to the 'burbs due to gentrification. I don't think there are enough Black yuppies ("buppies") and DINKs to really be a significant sub-force, if you will, within this demographic shift. That goes for just about any city experiencing gentrification.

Its familes that are moving to suburbs. But as far as single black professionals most of them are living in the city like myself. I been living in Atlanta for 7 years and trust the demographics having been rapidly changing even in the Gay community. If I was married and had kids I would head to suburbs too but since Im a single black professional there would be no need for me to live way out in henry county somewhere.. The only people that were forced out the city were the residents that were living in the projects, As the Atlanta area changes of course you are going to see more black, white asian etc moved within the city.
