I expect to take a job and relocate to Atlanta in November. I am male, single in my 40's, and from my knowledge of the area and reading up, I think Buckhead or Midtown is where I will live. From what I have seen so far on the internet and through Promove, I have it narrowed down to:

Westchester Peachtree Valley
Kingsboro Apts
Bryson Square
Gables Midtown

I am looking for a complex that is social and lively but not a dorm/frat house. Pool/Fitness/Balcony are requirements. 1B/1B is fine. Budget $1,200. Prefer a nice place that the walls are not made of paper.

Not concerned about school quality, and want to avoid "high" crime area (if that is possible). I will be working in and around the city, so the location is more predicated on things to do (walk?) in the immediate area.

Can anyone comment on the above choices, or add other possibilities? My honest concern is that I am told with the recent downturn in the economy, I have read that a lot of places that were great before have now gone downhill as management dropped prices and relaxed standards for renters (ie. Riff Raff). Any help here would be greatly appreciated!

Don't know any of the above, but Post Apartments typically have a high quality product.

I have friends who live in apartments in Buckhead and Midtown. They complain about the increase in crime in their areas (car / apartment break-ins, theft, etc), so yes, this is a definite concern for you. The comment about filling up the places with unreliable renters is definitely an issue in that area. A few of my friends live in mid-priced areas, too with gates and nice amenities. I know one friend with 1 bedroom who pays about $1100 a month right off Peachtree just north of 75-85 (sorry, can't recall its name, but I believe they own several apartments in the area). Post Apartments are considered pricey and generally good quality.

Check out individual apartments at this site: Apartment Ratings :: The leading source of apartment reviews by renters for renters.

You probably already read that website, but some of the reviews may be an indicator about these places while some reviews are just extremely empty-headed, but I don't know the specific apartments you mention.

Good luck.
