I can get this for 205,000:
http://beta.realtor.com/realestatean...3_M68743-88349

whereas up here in Western Mass where i currently live I get this for 205,000
Westfield, MA, 01085 - MLS #71106134 - Single Family Home real estate - REALTOR.com®

I would have to spend 500,000 to get a comperable house up here than what you get down there for dirt cheap:
Wisteria Ln, Suffield, CT, 06078 - MLS #G547406 - Single Family Home real estate - REALTOR.com®

Moved here from central MA in 2007, when values were higher in both locations. We didn't move here EXCLUSIVELY for real estate values, but that was a component of the total package. The other thing was that you can't get the type of home in New England that we bought here. They just don't exist, or are rare and massively expensive. We got tired of our 120 year old home with small closets, small bedrooms, and small bathrooms, despite spending more than 100K in updates and changes.

It wouldnt be exclusively for the prices but for a couple of years now my wife and I have wanted to either move to the atlanta area or ORlando area.
We are a bit scared of doing it though cause all that we do for work is Customer Service, we arent marketting reps, accountants, lawyers, executives or anything like that, so we have a handicap career wise.

We really want to make the move though, for the sake of the real estate prices, to start anew, to just live somewhere other than where we grew up.

I'd say go for it, but visit Atlanta first. You don't want to take the leap and then find out later that you don't like it.

Here's a strategy: one of you can move down, live in temporary housing and look for work, while the other stays in Mass, working. At least you will still have one income. After finding work in Atlanta, the other can make the move.

No catch. Most of the area is still undeveloped so cheap land which equal cheaper houses.

^^^ + Atlanta has no natural boundaries which help keep the price of a home cheap
