I am moving from Pittsburgh to Atlanta tomorrow and will be driving down. I am wondering if anyone has ever made this drive and how long it takes, any good places to visit/stay on the way, etc. Hope you can help, thanks!

I've made that drive many times as both my wife and I moved to ATL from Pitt. Barring bad traffic or rain it takes me 10 hours averaging about 10-15 mph over the speed limit. Take highway 19 from 79 to 77 in WV rather than taking 79 all the way to Charleston.

I don't think there's really anything worth stopping off to see on the way (or at least I never did) and I never took more than one day to do the trip.

I've done the same trip a few times (to/from Greensburg)- usually about 11hrs. No fiddlefartin' around, just gas, food, and an occasional whiz!
There's really nothing along the way- Unless you're a NASCAR fan, stop in Charlotte, NC.

I agree with the first two posters, as I've been back and forth between both cities quite a few times.

If you are looking to do the drive in one day, the aforementioned route is ideal. However, if you plan on doing it in two days, and want to take what I find to be a more relaxing drive, there is a perfect stopping point in Lexington, KY via 79 South/64 West. As you approach Lexington and transition to 75 South, there is a plethora of hotels at one of the exits on the east side of Lexington. 75 will then take you all the way to ATL.

Enjoy ATL. I love both Pittsburgh and Atlanta. I have family in both places, and I will probably be heading back south before the cold weather hits the Burgh.
