I live in Jasper Ar. moved here in 96 and I find there is very limited culture diversity in this area. I moved here from Houston Tx. "There are less than 10 Hispanics and maybe 2-3 African Americans. North of here there is a Tysons chicken plant and it tends to bring in the Hispanic work force. And it is still documented that the KKK has offices in the Boone County, Zinc- Grand dragon may live Get info on Harrison Ar. No china town around here no Asian quarters, no German town etc.etc.
There for we don't have authentic food to indulge, which is what I miss the most from multi culture living. Although, if you consider Hippies a culture diversity We are the largest group of folks here along with the Hillbillies...

You know, I believe most people don't really care about living around cultural diversity, to tell the truth. It's human nature to feel most comfortable around people who are like you. Look at the immigrants who have come to America over the years....they end up living in little communities of their own, for the most part, carrying on their unique cultural traditions, because they want to (think Chinatown in NYC, and similar places all over the country). And there's nothing wrong with that. There is room enough for everyone in this huge country.

And some people simply don't want to live in places full of crime, drugs, gangs, violence, boom boxes, no one around speaking English, you name it, whatever gets on your last nerve. Everyone should be free to find a place where they can live the way they like (within the law, of course) without being castigated for it or automatically slapped with labels like narrow-minded, racist, bigot, uncultured, etc.

The main thing is to treat every individual you meet wherever you go with courtesy and respect until they clearly demonstrate that they don't deserve your respect. Then you can just choose to spend as little time around those people as possible. That's called freedom. You can't like everybody, you know, that's just humanly impossible.

Yer kiddin', right?

Seriously.....people have got to seperate between "xenophobia", and the puruit of a more peaceful pasture.

A lot of folks, including me, took to heart the phrase, "If you don't like it, there's the door".

I didn't slam that door, I closed it quietly.

Bright lights, big city, I'm not too fond of your horse, either.

That's not a locked door, anyone can follow. The OP asked about diversity. That is too frequently associated with segregation/integration, and that's not right.

I remember great ballywhooing about Atlanta being the upscale black capital of the U.S.

African Americans went to Atlanta in masse, promoted business, were successful, and changed the face of Atlanta forever.

When people *choose* to go to an area, or *not* go to an area, why should it be an issue at all, or a burden on the "political correctness factor" of the people that settle in that area.

The boom boxes, crime, drugs, gangs, violence, are not welcome anywhere.....but...yes...I have a problem when they follow me through the door.

No, there's seriously not that much diversity in NEA.

There's seriously not that much diversity in the Delta region.

There's seriously not that much diversion in East Los Angeles.

That's not my fault, and I'm certainly not going to guilt trip for it.

This is a free country and everyone has a *great* deal of freedom, where they live and how they live.

I have the freedom to walk down 79th & Stoney in Chicago with a $20 bill sticking out of my pocket at 3:00 A.M.

However, I'm realistic enough to know I'll never live to spend it.

Race keeps getting introduced into region, and who lives there, and that's a mistake. It's lifestyle. If one wants to bang, have a loud boombox in their car, sell drugs, and walk around with their britches around their ankles whilst displaying the week's choice of boxers, and....occupying one hand.....

I strongly suggest that you pass on buying that farm down the road from me that's up for sale.

Now...is that xenophobic....non-accepting...racist...whatever other rhetoric may come up to be introduced when one runs out of rational discussion?

Well, then...that my friend, is composed of that I endeavour to not step in when going to my neighbors house through his west cattle lot.
