Well i found a snake on my property. It was late at night maybe 12. The snake was not coiled up but was just lying against my wall. I live in a non rural area and the snake was found nowhere near grass or water..maybe a fifty foot radius. im assuming the snake is nocturnal coz it was out at night. I ended up catching the snake fairly easily. I want to find out what the snake is. The picture below is not the greatest quality but the general pattern is black bands with alternating fillings. one filling is solid green. the other filling is yellow/pale with a reddish color in the middle of it. When i caught the snake it wasnt aggressive but was extremely jittery in terms of reacting to anything. I couldnt identify the snake coz of its unique color pattern. The snake was about 2.5 to 4 feet long and i live in mesa az if that helps. Thanks ahead of time.

Hard to tell from those pictures, but please be careful until you confirm it isn't a coral snake.

Here is a site with AZ species:

Snakes of Arizona (http://www.reptilesofaz.org/herp-snakes.html - broken link)

There are quite a few that are similar but there isn't anything with green bands. Maybe its someone's pet that got out?

Looks like a long-nosed snake to me, but hard to tell from the pics.

In no way is it a coral snake

My first glance at the pics I figured king snake, milk snake, etc. but none of those have green bands.

I am almost positive it wasnt a coral snake coz i saw no yellow as a primary color. It could be a long nosed snake but the only issues with that would be the green and the snake was not speckled with tan scales in its colors. My original guess was also a kingsnake but again the green is an issue. Any more suggestions? This ones really a mystery.

Just remember this very fitting saying: "Red touch yellow can kill a fellow; Red touch black, venom lack." If there is yellow in that snake's skin, it's a Coral snake, and stay the hell away.

I found this nifty site, but I still couldn't pinpoint it. Perhaps you can get a better idea since you saw more details of the snake.
