I live in CA -- and I don't like daylight savings time (DST). I mean I'm not sure what it -really- 'saves' -- and I know the SUN is NOT paying attention to it. The time (and jet lag) adjustments are a pain (to me anyway).

Anyway, I'm just wondering, especially if you've experienced both (with and without DST) -- what your thoughts on it are. (It may tip the scales in my decision to move to Arizona one day!!)

THANK YOU!!

The lack of DST is definitely one of the reasons I like Arizona. The way I see it, there is absolutely no reason to observe DST in any part of the country ... but it's even more ridiculous in Arizona where the sun is constantly blasting us during the summer months. Think about it: why would we want to have an extra hour of sunlight and heat during the evening hours???

The only drawback about not being on DST is we have to adjust to everybody else in the nation. During Standard Time, we are one hour ahead of California ... but during Daylight Time, our clocks are the same time as California. For the Arizonans who deal with customers in other states, it can be a pain in the neck trying to remember that the east coast is three hours ahead now, instead of two ... and trying to remember that when it's 3:00 here, the people in New York are probably eating dinner.

I never liked the entire concept of DST either. What exactly is the point of having it anyway? Besides, the way it is now, Daylight Savings Time is in effect longer than regular Standard Time. Makes no sense to have it at all, and I wish they would eliminate the whole thing nationwide!

I have lived in many states that observe DST. At first I hated the fact that Arizona did not observe DST because I had always looked forward to the first day of "Spring Forward" when the sun didn't set until 7:30 or later. It always seemed like one of the signs that spring was on its way.

However, after moving here, I realize how much hassle DST is and that there's really little point to it. MSNBC's Rachel Maddow had a guest on the other night to explain the origins of DST. DST was supposedly created for farmers, but from its inception they were against it.

I like that California is on our time now because I no longer have to count on my 10PM TV shows coming on at 11PM. Plus I do a lot of business with clients in southern California. The fact that we're on the same time removes yet another hassle.

I posted this on another thread the other day. I absolutely hate DST, especially when our former President changed the weeks a few years ago to make it even earlier. We live in NC and have a Samoyed who loves sitting on the front porch in the cooler weather. With DST by July and Aug. the 90 degree sun is still beating in the front of the house and she still cannot go out. I had been thinking about this a little while ago 3 1/2 mo. from now it will be the longest day of the year and then TG the days get shorter. I wish the President would change this ridiculous concept.

I'm not from AZ but I am in one of the Mid-Atlantic states where we observe DST. Personally, I love the extra hours of daylight but I have never understood the concept of DST. If the tracking and measurement of time is an invention of man and the sun will rise and set whenever it does (in accordance to its placement of the revolving Earth) then how does "adding" or "subtracting" an extra hour do anything? Wouldn't the sun set in June at the same time each year with or without DST? And if other states and countries do not follow it then how does it benefit us to follow it?

GOOD GRIEF . . .

Are you guys gonna serve some cheese with all this whining?

What difference does it make? They are merely numbers on a clock.

One MORE hour of Sun in the evening equates to one LESS hour ofSun in the morning, or vice versa. What difference does it make? Definitely not worth losing sleep over, especially considering many of the horrific problems all around us right now.
