Hi,

We are considering a move from Southern California to Arizona. We do not like flat areas so we are considering Prescott, Payson, Flagstaff, or Sedona. My question is, does anyone know of any communities on a lake in any of these areas or any other green mountain areas of Arizona? We would prefer to live on the water.

Thank you in advance!

Jill

The only lake I can think of in that area would be Mormon Lake, and most of the places around there are summer cabins if i'm not mistaken. There are a lot of beautiful places to live up north, but unfortunately living on the water is not so common here.

Check out Rainbow Lake in Pinetop-Lakeside, AZ. Condos, private homes, some gated on a small mountain lake. It's about the only thing like it in the state. Most lakes are surrounded by National Forest public lands. Rainbow is mostly private.

I'd recommend a forest-y location in the Prescott area. BTW, do you have to work to survive? Do you have a job lined up? That is the make or break question. You realize you won't find a Mammoth Mountain or Wrightwood or Idyllwild type of community here - right? You c-a-n live a very good life in Prescott if you're a middle-class + California cash-out. Lots of them here already. Got Lexus?

Jill,
We are also considering moving to Arizona. We currently live in Frazier park, north of magic mountain and I am wondering what mountain areas you have discovered there and if there are any areas you could recommend coming from CA yourself

The o/p posted back in 2008, and hasn't returned for a year or so. But others may have some advice for you.

"coming from CA yourself"....I'm curious about what this has to do with the overall question ? Are you attempting to replicate where you live in CA ?

"any areas you could recommend"....recommend for what purpose ? Employment, recreation, cost of living, reports of alien spacecraft sightings ? What information are you seeking ?

Regards

If you're looking for green areas (some with water) - look at Williams, Flagstaff, Kachina Village, Mountainaire, Prescott, Payson, Pine, Strawberry, Christopher Creek, Heber, Overgaard, Show Low, Pinetop, Lakeside.

Some are villages, some are towns, some are cities (but not a "CA" city!).

There are others, but that should give you a start on Googling city websites
