Are there any gated or planned communities in or near either Tucson, Phoenix, Scottsdale or Prescott that incorporated a huge open space (several hundred acres) within the community for hiking or horseback riding? Golf communities probably wouldn't fit the bill unless they specifically included hiking/riding trails within or around the golf course. Thanks.

Neither of which contain "hundreds of acres" of vacant land within the community. I don't think any developer is going to buy that much land, put a fence around it, and not be able to use "hundreds of acres" inside. The developments mentioned are adjacent to open desert for riding or hiking, but the don't have horse properties, as far as I know, or if they do there aren't many. DC Ranch is not gated, either. Don't know about Troon.

I know south of Tucson (near Tubac) is the Salero Ranch which does have thousands of acres with 40 acre minimum lot sizes. The ranch is spectacular, but it's a bit isolated. However that's an example of a developer that chose to keep the lots big to avoid many of the restrictions associated with smaller lot sizes (i.e. greater density).

No, they don't have HUNDREDS of acres. But DC Ranch has a number of trails running through it, and sits at the foot of the McDowells.. and yes, most of DC Ranch is gated. Troon is similar.

Lose the freaking attitude.
