Didn't know where else to put this ?, but I suppose the state with the most kind of rattlesnakes is a place to start. I don't like to use guns, so just asking.

Why do you feel the need such measures, BeenHere?

Rattlesnakes are like any other wild "critter" . . . leave them alone and they will leave you alone. In all the years I have lived in Arizona my encounters with Rattlesnakes have been very limited, however, it was obvious they were more afraid of me than I was of them.

Rule of thumb . . . don't "corner" them and give them a "way out" so they can continue to eat Rats, Mice and other destructive pests.

They don't need to see to ruin your day. Leave the Bear Spray at home and don't bother the snakes.

Agree with both posters. Why do you think you need to use pepper spray (in lieu of guns) on a snake? Live and let live.

After coming across a rattler warming himself on a hiking path, with no way for me to go around, I used my water bottle to squirt him with a stream of water....he kindly move off the trail.

Almost stepped on a young black tailed rattler while hiking Heliograph peak in the Grahams the other day...nudged him along with my boot so he got off the trail and we both went our separate ways.

I used to kill every rattler I saw, but now it is live and let live with them as far as I am concerned.

Had one on the road in front of my house sometime back...caught him and relocated him several miles out in the desert.

I would not recommend doing that yourself however.

I have never heard of bear spraying a buzzworm. I generally don't bother them and they don't bother me. I did have to shoot one last summer the barn cats had cornered on our patio. He was backed up against a wall by three young and stupid cats who'd never seen a rattler before. All three of them had their faces about 4 inches from his fully cocked head and wouldn't move when i tried to shoo them away.

If you try it, please report your findings.

as the others said, leave the rattler alone, as for the bear spray, there is a easy way to know if there are bears around, if you see some dung on the ground, if it smells like pepper, then it is bear dung
