If you're thinking about Saline, you may want to try the Travis Pointe subdivision. Clean, pretty, low on crime and homes are decently priced...

Good luck to you

Default Saline

Hi Michigan Mom,
Saline is a middle sized town. It is a small town with the accessibility to lots of opportunities because it is next to Ann Arbor. It is a safe, friendly community with good schools.

No problem, I'm pretty familiar with the area so I can try to help. RiverOaks apts in Saline is of average quality and pretty cheap.

You may also want to try Hidden Valley apts in Ann Arbor. My sister lived there for five years and enjoyed her experience. Pretty quiet place and she didn't deal with any crime...

In general, the Ann Arbor / Saline / Ypsi area can be hit or miss....there are areas where crime is more of a regular thing (mostly AA & Ypsi) and other complexes/subdivisions where crime is almost non-existent.

I have lived in Saline most of my life. There arent any great apts. but i lived in both Thorncrest (do NOT recommend) and River Oaks.
You might have better luck finding a house for rent for about the same price.

As for safety, all of Saline is very safe. Crime is almost unheard of. There is a quaint downtown with shops/restaraunts/cafes and we are close to Ann Arbor.

hths!

Saline is a ghetto, they got bag ladies,,,,,,,,,,big ballers,,,,,,,,,,,everybodys strapped with a nine! LMFAO

the worst crime you'll ever have in Saline is the spike in roadkill on michigan ave from squirrels and other assorted gangstas of the woods. lol

Very safe area, though you might check stats on burglaries in subdivisions, as is the case everywhere when people are gone all day and teenagers are looking for thrills.

The downtown is tiny, essentially one crossing street, and Route 12 runs though it, with gigantic 18 wheelers lumbering through, as it is the old "truck" route. Not a good area to sit outside at a restaurant due to the exhaust and noise from constant truck traffic.

Be aware that Saline has a huge auto plant, and that is the primary employment of the area. The grocery stores (Busch's) near the plant have a huge red meat department, as you would expect. Not great produce.

I just drove through Saline earlier this week and one of the anchor stores downtown is closing. There has been a lot of closures in the last couple years due to the downturn. Some are re-rented to other businesses and it will take time to see how long they last.

Schools are good, though the community at large is very "closed" and tight-knit. Somewhat of a bedroom community for Ann Arbor. Large WalMart built a couple years ago, but a VERY depressing store, perhaps because many of the employees were formerly unemployed (and angry) auto workers. You'll see lots of pick-up trucks around town. Positive and negative, like anywhere else.
