I voted on several (US, Canada, Ireland, Scotland, etc.) but Japan should definitely be on the list. They make good, yet unique Whisky (Suntory, etc.)

My faves:

Eagle Rare, USA
Basil Haden, USA
Most Irish Whiskey's
Several small-batch USA whisky's

For a semi-inexpensive, reasonable choice, Evan Williams 1783

The Evan Williams Small Batch 1783 is (Was last week anyway) on sale in Wake County ABC for around $32 for a 1.75L bottle. That is a crazy-good deal for "house liquor" of that quality.

Japan and Taiwan both have some very interesting whiskies, that I have really enjoyed. I have also had a number of alcohols in China, some of which my hosts described as whiskey, but I could not verify that.

Consider adding India. Amrut and some other Indian Whiskies are quite nice. Think of Amrut as a Scotch whisky made and aged at some altitude in India....according to the pros the stuff ages roughly 3x faster.
