Even way back, "Wine" coolers were made with malt beverage. Cheaper than wine. And you can make what is essentially beer fairly flavorless, so you can add whatever fruity flavors you want to it, plus it's faster to make than wine.

Wine Coolers are the easiest thing to make at home. Easy, Cheap and it's the wine that you like all the time.

We pick up a big box of Mike's hard lemonade from Costco when they have them, or Walmart when they don't. Current box has four flavors Black Cherry, original Lemonade, Strawberry Pineapple, and Strawberry Lemonade. They hit the spot. ☺️
