I like a good rye whiskey but I really just can't stomach drinking my hard liquor without a mixer. I usually drink whiskey with diet coke and I'm trying to elimiate soda from my diet, what is another common easy-to-make drink I can make with whiskey?

How about a classic like the Manhattan? Three parts Rye, one part Sweet Vermouth and a dash of Angostura Bitters...mix over ice or served very cold straight up with a cherry. Another nice option is 3 parts Rye Whiskey and one part Domaine Canton Ginger Liqueur, mix and serve over ice with a lemon wedge.
The classic is bourbon & branch water, though I think it's a shame to water down good whiskey. How about brewing a batch of ginger tea and using that as a mixer?

Try an Old Fashioned for a classic cocktail. I also like whiskey with cranberry juice or 1/2 cran - 1/2 soda water. I've also been known to put it in my iced tea (sweetened with stevia).
That site is good for exploring as well - on the recipe page for "base spirit" click on the american whiskey and it will open up more options
