While I prefer "plain" vodka, I was in a hurry at the store, and I accidentally purchased espresso/coffee flavor. I didn't realize it until I mixed it with Sprite and thought I was going to lose my lunch. This vodka has a very strong sweet, syrupy taste and I'm wondering if anyone knows of any ways of neutralizing that (disgusting) flavor, or, at the least, recommend something palatable with which I can mix it. And I know coffee would be the obvious answer, but I don't want to mix it with anything that has caffeine.
If you know anything, talk to me people! I can't just spill the damn stuff out; that would be alcohol abuse. Thanks!
I hate those infused vodkas. You can infuse those flavors yourself, so why make them pre-infused? And the flavor is always way too strong. And why make it chemically sweet? I actually don't think it would be too bad if it weren't sweet.
Anyway, the usual way to neutralize sweet is with sour or acidic. Orange or lemon. Those naturally pair with espresso. You can try and infuse it with unsweetened cocoa powder to make it mocha flavored with some counteracting bitterness. Fresh ginger is another possibility. I don't think ginger ale has the astringency to cut the sweetness, but you can try maybe amping it up with grated ginger.
I'm afraid in the end you're just stuck with this specialty vodka in your pantry, for specialty cocktails. Spiciness is another sweet neutralizer, but you have to be careful with the espresso flavor. You can experiment with chipotle. MAYBE a spicy bloody mary would work since tomatoes have a natural sweetness, but that's a careful balance with the espresso.

I'm sorry, but everything you suggested sounds completely and utterly disgusting.
I would go with an earlier poster and say mix it half and half with cheap irish cream and shoot it. I would not pour large glasses of the mix in order to savor the taste.

Mix it with milk/cream over ice, or maybe put it in a blender with vanilla and/or chocolate ice cream and some ice cubes. Enhance any of the above with a splash of Chambord as well.
