So, I have in-laws coming into town this week, and they'll be staying with us for nearly a month. To say they are finicky about their coffee is an understatement. Where can I buy strong coffee here in the ABQ area? I'm talking drinking a cup of tar strong, so please, no Starbucks recommendations. I don't care if it's a coffee shop, grocery store, or co-op, I just need to stock up on something nuclear to keep my MIL appeased.

Ask them what they drink back home and check to see if somewhere around here carries it. If not maybe you can order it.

Satellite Coffee has some great bold blends.

I think Sophia's Place uses Fat Boy Coffee (out of Cedar Crest) and their coffee is damn good!

Get some Café Bustelo, comes in cans or wrapped plastic bricks, yellow containers, at Smith's or Lowe's groceries, and Walmart also. Yes, I drink it frequently...

Starbucks isn't strong enough for them? I'm from Seattle, so they must be hardcore. I have to agree, though, that Albuquerque is lacking a bit in the coffee department.

I really like the tea house on Silver and Wellesley. Right next door to them is Limonata, and they have some good coffee there too. As far as buying strong coffee at the store, you might try World Market...they have a bunch of different blends there.

They are Scandinavian, and they take their coffee very seriously. Thanks, everyone, for the suggestions. I have a feeling that the Café Bustelo might be a good fit, but I'm excited to try to Fat Boy, too. Looks like I'll be hitting the stores tonight so we can do a taste test tomorrow.

$tarbucks over roasts their beans. Terrible, terrible coffee. I can think many many places in town with much better coffee.

Starbucks is terrible. Try Guiseppe downtown, RB Winnings near UNM is decent, Michael Tomas on Carlisle near Gibson, or Java Joes downtown (who also has delicious NM-style breakfast food).

Trader Joes has their own house brand dark roast.
My wife can't stand it, so that means it's pretty strong.
I've had it on occasion, and think it's decent for the money.
