My son starts school in the fall and I am torn between these two schools. ANY input on which might be better is appreciated. I am also not sure if APS or RR is better as a whole...

If you look at the school grading system implemented this year, Corrales Elem. got a "B" and Rio Rancho Elem. got a "C" grade. If you look at last year's AYP (Academic Yearly Progress) report, Corrales Elem. had 72.77% proficient in Reading and 69.48% proficient in math. Rio Rancho Elem. school had 55.02% proficient in Reading and 62.63% proficient in math on the standards-based assessments. I myself would choose Corrales over Rio Rancho. I've observed at the school and think it's a decent school with pretty high family involvement. About 1/2 or more of the students coming out of Corrales Elem and moving on to mid-school go to private school. Corrales feeds into Taylor Middle School. Not the worst, but certainly not stellar. My daughter attended Taylor and is now in high school. My son is still at Taylor. You would have better options for middle school in Rio Rancho. If you are involved in your kids' education, your kids would do well at either school.

These debates seem to go on forever, but I understand the apprehension... I have grand kids who attended K through 12th grade in Rio Rancho and one child attending college in RR.

My own opinion, if properly supervised in a good family environment they could excel in either school...

Good luck!

My question has to do with how the schools address issues like bullying. Are the RR schools actually doing anything about individual incidents as they occur at school?
