I just received a ticket for going 71 in a 55 on the Taconic State Parkway. The officer told me that if I came to court to fight the ticket, he would not object. What does that mean and how can I fight it? He claimed on the ticket that he visually estimated my speed and then used radar.

All that means is he doesn't care if you fight it. But don't read between the lines on this one too much to lose. Through my experience the best way to fight a ticket is by declaration of innocence. In other words write a letter and send in the mail. That has worked for me several times in several states but I am not a doctor.

When you fill out the ticket, you choose "innocent". Send it in. You will then receive a letter telling you to appear in traffic court, and when. You show up in court on the day specified. At that time, the officer may or may not offer you a deal with you agreeing to a lesser charge, such as a failure to obey a traffic signal. Still expensive, but fewer points and possibly less chance of your insurance rates going up. Good luck.

Kermit, if you look at some of my previous posts. I have posted a number of times about NY speeding tickets. Good luck.
