For the third or fourth time in the last month the snow melted down to brown in some places, then we get another big dump.
Yesterday we had a report of our first brownie being out and about for the spring, he is always here and he is a big one.
It was snowing when I woke this morning and the weather advisory is calling for up to 19 inches. Stay tuned "for the rest of the story." for those of you who know who Paul Harvey is. Gotta love the guy.
Does anyone know his where about's? I haven't heard him in a long time.

Please, the rest of the story. As for Paul, he is with Elvis, Ronald Regean and my buddy from Nome, Jim West Sr.

Thank you, I thought he was with Elvis, but couldn't remember for sure.
The rest of the story won't be for a few days, I am off for a couple starting at midnight. But, just thought of Paul and had to throw that in.

Bears can get up at anytime through winter. Especially when it thaws. I'd imagine a wet den is highly uncomfortable. My advice is to leave them alone...and they'll go home...wagging their tails behind them.

On the way out to the cabin on snowmachines, there will be bear tracks now and then down the trail where they got up in January and looked around and went back to bed. They normally aren't eating, just poking around and then go back to sleep.

In Kenai some years back they were using explosives to do seismic tests, they woke a bear up that was denning next to the blast, and he smacked the first person he saw which was one of the workers.. killed him instantly.

Yep, heard there were blackie sightings in Juneau. The skunk cabbage is about 6" tall here in K-town. Guess that is the first thing they eat,so, buffet is open. Damn, have to start putting the food waste in the freezer till we hear the garbage truck.
I live three blocks from downtown and my paper delivery dude had 16 sightings in a four clock square area last summer before September. And then they wouldn' go to sleep, I had a big black butt going down my walkway one morning when I was going for paper.
But summer will be nice, we are short on snow pack here, but hopefully it will be o.k.
Happy Spring,
Nan

Snowed like crazy Out the Road yesterday - less in Auke Bay, less still in the Valley and none at all in Juneau. With the rain today a lot of it is gone now.

Been hearing about bear sightings off and on for the past month or so.

Tulips are out and so are the daffodils - lots of buds on the trees - spring is close.
