I'm a former chef who cooked in Alaska for 13 years. I've since side-stepped out of kitchens, have started a second career so that I have time to complete a cookbook writing project I've had in the works for a long time.
My question? Which Alaskan cookbooks are YOUR favs? And why?
The best Alaskan recipes come from my friends and family. I wouldn't be surprised if many of them are Betty Crocker recipes that have been slightly altered. With that said the only Alaskan Cookbook I uses is..... I can;t find it online. It's a Halibut Cook book. The cover is blue and it uses a spiral binding. You can find it at various stores throughout Alaska. They also have one for Salmon.....but everybody knows Halibut is waaaaaay better than salmon.
Are posting recipes? Awww man..... I have a super simple, quick yet delicious halibut recipe we always use at fish camp. Rumor is my uncle invented it hung over one day and used what he had on hand.
since there are so many snowshoe hares this year, she's done just about everything imaginable with them- rabbit curry, bbq rabbit (much like pulled pork, done in the crock pot), rabbit borscht, rabbit stew, stuffed rabbit (two of them for thanksgiving), rabbit stir-fry, and so on.
then of course there are the salmon recipes, and the crab, and the moose stews and chilis.
