Hello, new to the forum, but just a few quick questions.

My friends and I are planning a roadtrip from where we live in New Jersey all the way up to Alaska (Anchorage area presumably).
I don't think it will be much of a problem on the way up getting through to Canada, but once we get to Alaska I have some questions. The only other information that is really probably going to hinder us is the fact that we will all be under 18

1. Camping - is it free to camp on National/State Forests?
I tried finding some of this information, but didn't come out with much luck.

2. Apartments - are they cheap?
If possible, an apartment would be more than ideal. Something small with minimum furnishings would surpass suitable.

3. Jobs - I've read some things that say jobs are plentiful, but you could get stuck without one. Just something to pay what the camping fee would be (or some of the rent for a place) and food.
We do expect to bring quite a bit of money with us, though.

I think I'm being vague and I'm sure more questions will arise, but I appreciate any help.

Your gonna have the time of your life. Just drive carefull. Lot's of Moose, Elk, Deer, and Buffalo on the roads in northern Canada.
Make sure you get down to the peninsula south of Anchorage.

It just sounds like such an experience from what I gather.
We do expect a lot of surprises on the road.
And maybe we'll be able to bring some fishing gear, that would be awesome.
Thanks guys.

Bring two cameras. Keep one for a backup.

One thing I noticed is you mentioned all of the road-trippers will be under 18.
That could present a problem at the border to Canada.
Technically you are unaccompanied minors and might be required to have
documentation from you parents/guardians stating what you are doing.
This is from the Canadian Border Services web page:
bsf5082 Information for Visitors to Canada and Seasonal Residents
Check up on what you will need to travel so you won't get stuck at the
border.
After that....enjoy and follow the advice given here...take tons of pics.

I was partially aware of the border regulations. Thanks for the site, though.
By next summer I think we will need passports (I already have one) to get through Canada.
I'm sure TONS of pictures will be taken

Yes take two cameras. My first trip to Alaska I missed the shot of a lifetime of two Elk locked horns pushing each other back and forth for about a 1/2 hour. To this day there is a trailer trucker driver who is still taking about the crazy lady who slammed her camera off the pavement not once but several times, then set it on the pavement in front of his tires and motioned to him to run it over!! It was a nice Konica with a 200-300mm lens.
