Just overcast and about 33* here. Snow seems to be melting quick in the past few days.

The great meltdown has started here, too. It's under freezing here now and just stopped snowing. I am so sick of winter! Can't wait for vacation next month!

Don't worry, snow was short lived, but it must have made it slick in Soldotna, because sand trucks were out dumping more on the highway than in the middle of the winter

Does the ADOT have to use a special kind of road salt because of Alaska's extreme Northern latitude? or do you know?

Snow is snow to me! even if it lasts for only 1 nanosecond!

I don't think they use salt here. They used rather large gravel all winter, and this was the first I've seen this much sand. They only put down for traction down here anyway...Bad thing is we are on the way south out of town with a major hill, so could be ugly...good thing is DOT is across the highway from us This is Alaska and almost spring, so weather changes quickly, now the sun is out and about 41 here. Our road off the highway is full of side by side holes of different depths of mud and water, with the edges being frozen and melting slush being at least a 6" drop off. I had to buy eggs today and amazingly none broke, but I bet if I crack one it would be pre-scrambled...Moral of the story is leave the car and take the truck for a while...

Wow they use gravel? I guess I learn something new everyday.

I am pretty sure we use a sand-salt like mixture here.

We have major hills here in town also. I think that is why the DOT is 3km--2 miles from my house.

We are just a wee bit warmer than you are. 48 degrees here. We have some wholes here but they are probably not as bad as they are up there

The trail to the cabin is done for the year. The snow is still good, but going fast. The creeks opened up yesterday. Flying will be the only access tip next winter. Looks like the tripod may go out earlier this year, we aren't dropping to 20 below at night this year. Purse is about $350,000.00 this year!
