If you did not have to worry about employment or any thing like that. Where in Alaska would you live?

The Fairbanks area.

Visited for the first time in March 2011 to see the Northern Lights and was really drawn to the place.

Visited again Feb 2012 and it was great to be back. Going again January 2013 for 2+ weeks to see what WINTER is like. Visiting is never the same as living somewhere, but it will at least give me a glimpse.

Don't know if I will ever be able to swing a move, though not ruling it out. Even if I never can relocate, I will have taken some great trips.

Either here or Seward, I think. Easier to get above treeline here, but more nearby towns to visit there. Not sure being closer to Anchorage would be a good thing overall though, and their public lands seem to be much more highly regulated than ours. Of course, I think we win on snow alone, really.

Dang!!!! Kenai Penn is winning. Means too many people know our secret. I do miss the bookstores and the V.A. clinic is more limited than Anc, although the Anc clinic isn't much either, and the Anc clinic is "connected" to the base in the event of an emergency and after hours. Since that is my ONLY form of medical insurance I do worry about needing an ER, sometimes. But I will be eligible for Medicare in a few years so that will ease my mind, some. The upside is fishing and room to stretch. Mind you I live in the Kasilof "AREA", not in Kasilof. State forests on two sides of me and forested uninhabited areas on the other 2 sides. Close enough to get to "town" yet far enough away to feal isolated, in a good way. Originally I wanted to be in the Matsu area, Houston area. But couldn't afford it so chose this area and am happy with my choice. Probably happier than if I HAD been able to afford Matsu.

If it were me, I would pick Anchorage. It's the biggest city, it has the most going on.

Somewhere above the high water mark in Talkeetna. The Inn there serves up some really good food, and friendly folks thereabouts, the fishing, or so I have heard, is fairly good.

I live in metropolitan Atlanta. Anchorage is much smaller than the Atlanta area.

BTW, I like Starbucks.
