I saw this article today:

It lists Alaska as the 5th richest state. New Hampshire is rated #1.

I think this is a bit meaningless. They need to look at affordability indexes. While Alaska might have one of the highest median incomes, it also has some of the highest living costs, which could make it much less affordable to live compared to many places with lower median incomes.

I agree. Besides, the constitutionally protected Permanent Fund makes Alaska the richest state in the Union. After all, no other State, except Alaska, is $36 billion in the black.

Yeah, sometimes that PFD is all that keeps you and your family from starving that winter lol...

Yes definitely sarcasm! But it also depends on the size of your family...I have friends who are in a family of 12...so their PFD could probably feed them for the winter. Who knows? Depends on the size of the PFD too. I think the first year we were there (but not yet qualifying for it) the PFD was about $1300 a head...pretty good eatin' on that times 12!
