I finally got one over on those SOBs at Alaska Airlines. I upgraded myself to first class for $50, and therefore I get to check two bags for free rather than pay their fees, and all beverages are free in first class so I can get appropriately relaxed by the time I have to change to a small commuter jet at Sea-Tac. It is actually costing me less this way.

Sweet!

I always get stuck on the cargo jet which has no first class section. Everyone gets to stare at that damn wall.

Done it to Hawaii many times - $50 upgrade to $150 to Kona... You upgrade at ticket counter though vrs online. That is without using points. Alaska has also put me up in nice motels because of parts needed being there. Plus first class and more miles.

although I could not believe my friend saying 30,000 point/miles to Kodiak from Anchorage. Really it is only 25,000 to Kona HI. I am talking all Alaskan

Now if they would only fly to Kona with dogs I would leave Hawaiian airlines!

Freezen, you can get a cheap ticket a month or so in advance, and then upgrade it at the last minute for 50 bucks provided they have 1st class tickets left, don't pay baggage and get free hooch Can't beat it

Met they also have a FaceBook page where you can berate them. They actually seem to listen to customers who express their displeasure on FB.

Jet Blue will be serving Anchorage from So California starting in May 2011. Roundtrips are $247.00. Hopefully that will force Alaska to drop some fares.
