Hello,

My husband and I are in our mid-50's, retired, and would like to move to the Gulf Shores area. We are currently in upstate New York and found an apartment complex called Summer Trace located on W. Fort Morgan Rd., online that seems to be ideal - has a lot of places to walk to nearby and we both feel that this might be a good place to retire to. Is anyone familiar with this area and what are the pros and cons of living there?

Thanks much - Bob & Mary

Hello Keeper,

We like a safe environment, a town that's easy to get around in, we enjoy movies, friendly people, we like to make friends and entertain, we enjoy ballroom dancing or any kind of dancing and just living a good life. It would be nice to have a medical facility somewhat nearby.

Thanks!!

Have you considered Fairhope? We have a really good hospital right in town. South Baldwin hospital is a hike from there, and not as well rated as Thomas Hospital here in Fairhope.

Ft Morgan Road area is a bit out of the way and not in the heart of Gulf Shores per se. If you want more activities consider the Eastern Shore.

I agree you might want to check out Fairhope. Gulf Shores is a tourist town packed during the summer. Traffic is horrendous during the summer especially on Friday and Sunday. Anytime there is a hurricane you are going to have to leave. I have family in Orange Beach and in Summerdale.

Unless you want to live right on the gulf I would check out Fairhope. Quaint little town with shops right on Mobile Bay. Fairhope is on a bluff which protects it from flooding unless you live right on the water. It is a safe town too. Many folks don't lock their doors although I wouldn't recommend it but I lived in FL too long. You have shopping and all kinds of restaurants. Great seafood too. They have jubilee's too.. where fish, crab and shrimp come to the surface right on shore where you can scoop them up with a net. This is the only place in the states IIRC who has this event
