Being a newbie/light user I have a question about a thread I got involved in where I was notified by e-mail that someone had responded to me. The e-mail was not there at 2:00 am when I was having a little insomnia. It was there at 8:00 when I got up for the day. I went there, saw a nice comment that asked me a good question, spent some time writing a thoughtful comment in return only to realize the thread was closed.
I'm wondering if City-Data might add an alert to it's e-mail notification when they let us know there is a response to our posts.
I'm not sure I understand what you are asking for here. It sounds like you understand how to subscribe to threads and are using that alert feature. What I think you're asking is why doesn't the board send out alerts for subscribed threads instantly, instead of a few hours later?
you get the response as soon as the servers, on CD, and your email can forward them to you. The person that sent the question may be in a different time zone, than you, sent it, CD sent it to your Message box, their server, which in turn will take some time and forward it to your email, according to the traffic, and usage on your area will be the length of time it takes to get it, also your connections speed and server response. Some ISP providers, your internet hook up, could be delaying the info to you, it may not be CD at all.
