How does one take just a snip it of a post to quote in order to respond to it?
Left click mouse and drag across the snippet and that will highlight it. Right click on your mouse and click on "save". Then place your cursor where you wish to put the line and right click and hit "paste".

I should have added after you pasted the link highlight it again and click on the symbol to the left of Show/Hide at the top of your post. That will show it as a quote.

I click on Quote on the bottom of the selected post and then delete everything out of the quoted text except for that part I want to respond to... leaving the beginning quote code to show who it is from as well as the ending quote code intact - that part that I've highlighted in red below as this is what your quoted post originally looks like when I first quoted it in my responding post (keeping in mind that I've had to add spaces to it to get the quote code to show here):

For example, on your post above, say I just wanted to respond to snip it... I'd quote your entire post and then just leave the snip it part, like this...

Again, you do want to include who it is from so everyone will know who you are responding to, especially in a long, lengthy thread where you may be responding to someone else rather than the OP... and in so doing, you must have both a starting "[ quote ]" and an ending "[ /quote ]" from that post just as it was originally shown.
I also usually put a preceding "..." before the snip it if I've cut something preceding it, or "..." if I've cut something that follows what I've cut as I did in the example of your post above.
