Why is linking a picture in a thread a copyright violation but absolutely everything in the Funny Links forum not?
I'm not seeing the difference.
The difference is that a link to a copyrighted photo or video or text on another website is considered fair use, because the user has to go to that authorized site to access the file.
But placing a copyrighted file on this site, without the express permission of the copyright owner, is a violation of the law. And obviously the management of this forum does not want to be involved with legal issues, so the simple rule is "Don't post copyrighted material here."
With news stories and text references a brief excerpt is OK to accompany the link, but not the entire item. And obviously posting your own photographs is OK, just not other peoples. Simple!
Okay but to place a picture on CD you must copy it's location link into CD just as with the YouTube videos, right?
You're linking directly to it's origin.

This original question should have been answered this way. Linking a picture in a thread is not a copyright violation. Unless it's what they call a Hot link I believe. Funny links forum is all "links only"..
I got a warning for linking a picture....I'm confused. I would get it if no outside media was allowed but I can't grasp what is and isn't allowed because there's plenty posted...I don't see the difference.

Mod actions should be discussed via DM with the particular mod (per TOS). Sorry, I think we are all confused as to your exact situation.
I did discuss it but am confused after seeing the funny links section.
The situation is that I posted a funny pic, the type that make their way around FB, using the picture symbol...the one that has you paste the pictures link.
I got a warning for doing that, but don't see how that differs from the stuff in funny links.
