The 1880's marked La Jolla Cove as a tourist destination for those along the western coast. Since then millions of visitors have traveled to the cove each year. In 1928 the area really exploded due to Cornelio Rodriguez, who came from Jalisco, Mexico to open a pottery shop. He and his brothers started a pottery works at the bend of La Jolla Canyon Road, which was also the main route to Los Angeles. Much of what remains of the pottery works is the tile, old wood burning kiln, and a few pieces of art. The kiln was used until the 1980's, when most of the family was beginning to move away and die out.
