Cuyamaca Mountains


The Cuyamaca Mountains, located within the Cuyamaca Rancho State Park at 13652 Highway 79, Julian, CA, is a beautiful park featuring camping and hiking. In addition to the mountains, the park landscape includes: woodland forest, meadows, creeks and opportunities to view the local wildlife. There are over 100 miles of trails for hiking, mountain biking and horseback riding.

Two developed campgrounds are located within the park: Green Valley and Paso Picacho. These campgrounds provide over 160 total campsites for visitors, and are available for day use and overnight camping. The sites provide picnic tables, fire rings, restrooms and pay showers. Green Valley has a creek running through the middle of the campground, as well as cascades and shallow pools.

Paso Picacho, five miles north of Green Valley provides access to the most popular hiking trailheads including: Stonewall Peak, Cuyamaca Peak and Lake Cuyamaca. The lake is two miles north of Paso Picacho and offers fishing and boating to visitors.

The Cuyamaca mountain range is part of the Cleveland National Forest located in San Diego County. The somewhat nearby town of Julian is a 60 mile drive northeast of San Diego. Julian is a historic gold rush town that provides a convenient and relaxing place for guests who wish to visit the nearby national parks and trails.
