Cannell Trail

The Cannell Trail is not your average bike path. As a dirt bike trail, is offers riding for those with a sense of adventure. It is sometimes called the Cannell Plunge because the path offers a thrilling drop to make riding more exciting. The trail is more than 32 miles in length and is a single track. The lowest point of the trail is in Kernville where many riders start their trek and is at 2,700-feet. The highest point of the trail is Sherman Peak, at 9,900-feet. The Plunge part of the ride is the 5,000-foot drop that occurs during an 8-mile portion of the track. The ride is challenging and serious and experienced riders love it. Kernville is about an hour's drive from Bakersfield, California and shuttle service is offered from near the Kern River Bridge. There is a fee for the shuttle service and it may require a rider minimum when you schedule. Riders should bring a lot of water for their trip and not trust the stream water that flows beside the trail in many places unless they have a reliable filter system. Views are incredible when you reach the top of Sherman Peak, so if you can, bring along your camera to take a few shots. Parts of the trail may require hiking and are un-rideable, but the weather conditions may play a role in the amount you will be hiking during your ride.
