Brush Creek

If you are looking for an area that offer recreation opportunities like picnicking, whitewater rapids, waterfalls, and slides you will find it all at Brush Creek. The flower in the creek is usually low to moderate, so rafters of all abilities and experience can usually enjoy the rapids. The season runs from the later winter months until early in the summer. There is a parking area at the meeting point of the Kern River and the Brush Creek. This is also the point where explorers will find proof of prehistoric life and the Pomo people who once lived in the area. From the trailhead, there is a quarter of a mile walk to the creek, which can be somewhat treacherous during the soggy winter months. The creek is a tributary of Santa Rosa Creek. The town of Kernville is known as the Home of the Whiskey Flat and offers a variety of recreation, dining, and lodging options for visitors. There are several camping and motel sites, as well as bed and breakfasts for those looking for accommodations that are a bit more elegant and personalized. Shopping options include antique shops, apparel stores, gifts and sundries shops, a hardware store, and several specialty stores.
