Description: Opened in October 1998, this 129-bed hospital features a 24-hour pediatric emergency room, pediatric and neonatal intensive care units, pediatric operating suites, children’s imaging diagnostic services, and special outpatient clinics for children with complex diagnoses and chronic illnesses such as cystic fibrosis and brain tumors. The hospital houses San Antonio’s largest private neonatal intensive care unit with 46 beds. A nurse triage line, Call-­A-Nurse for Children (210-22-NURSE), operates 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, and provides free advice, in English or Spanish, from pediatric nurses.

Description: Methodist Hospital is San Antonio’s largest private hospital. The facility opened in 1963 and today offers 683 beds. The flagship of the Methodist Healthcare System, the hospital has several specialty areas including blood and marrow stem cell transplants, oncology, cardiology, orthopedics, neurology, and women’s services. Another unique facility is its Gamma Knife Center, opened in 1998. Opened in early 2004, this facility has 4 operating suites, 4 cardiac catheterization labs, a 10-bed day patient area, and a cardiovascular and chest pain referral center/emergency department. Other features include a rooftop helipad and underground parking area. The hospital campus is located in central San Antonio inside Loop 410 (southwest corner of the I-10 and Loop 410 interchange).

Metropolitan Methodist Hospital offers mother and baby care, general medical and surgical care, neurosurgery, cardiac care, oncology, behavioral health, inpatient and outpatient rehabilitation, sleep disorders evaluation, and a 24-hour emergency department. Description: The central facility for the Nix Health Care System is the Nix Medical Center, a 24-story building in downtown San Antonio. Operating since 1930, the hospital (locally referred to as “the Nix”) accommodates full medical, surgical, and geropsychiatric capabilities; outpatient and ancillary services; and acute care.
