Hard news for the Ross Township neighborhood, they lost the Bottom Dollar last month when they pulled up stakes and now the Good Cents store next door leaves a giant size hole in the Zayre Shopping Center.

Those North Hills snobs don't shop at any stinking discount grocery stores, but instead flock to Whole Foods and soon to be open Trader Joes. They in fact consider this good news instead.

Now if we can just block the Wal-Mart and set up means testing for access to Ross Park Mall, this area will be tops.

I've never been in a Good Cents store but no doubt it will create more hardship for poor people who need stores like that. Personally I do really miss Bottom Dollar. Aldi is okay but it isn't even close to as good.

People seeking discounted food still have Target, Wal-Mart, Family Dollar and Dollar General. The dollar stores have a lot of food, I can see the FD in Garfield picking up business with the closing of Bottom Dollar and the Target on McKnight getting business with the folding of Good Cents and Bottom Dollar out there in Ross.

Other than Wal-Mart, none of those places has a decent selection of food. Target is not cheap, and the other places don't come close to what a real food store offers. Save a Lot, and Aldi are the only options. If Save a Lot would update their stores, they'd make a killing.

Am I the only one who has never heard of a Good Cents store? South Hills food snob here, so maybe that has something to do with it....

The only good thing about the Good Cents store was the deli. You could get Dietz and Watson deli meat for $4.99 a lbs. Dietz and Watson is $7.99 a lbs at the regular Giant Eagle. Nothing so far compares to Bottom Dollar.

Then maybe you can explain why the Aldi a couple lights up the road is packed all the time.
