English is not my first language.

I believe I'm not the only one who got played dirty by the cops.

Recently, I got a citation from going 15mph over the speed limit on the street. It's my mistake and I accepted it. The cop asked me to sign the yellow ticket slip as acknowledgement. The cop didn't say anything about my window tinted at all!!!!!!!

After that, I got the Speeding citation letter in the mail. A week later, I get another citation letter for "Vehicle Window tinting" on that same day. My car is tinted 5 windows, but it is in the legal limit. I also got an additional yellow ticket slip without my signature because I didn't get cited when I get pulled over. The signature area shows the cop wrote "Driver Responsibility".

The cop played dirty and gave out additional citation to get high citation count. What can I do to fight my additional citation?

Remove your tint.

Window tint is what we call a 'fix it ticket." You remove your illegal tint, have them sign off on it, and move on.

It's illegal to tint the front two windows and windshield of your car in CA. It's a fix it ticket. Have it removed, and then get the ticket signed off.

I would just pay both citations and remove your window tint. The tint citation can't be that expensive.

It doesn't sound as if it is. Someone recently posted a link in the L.A. subforum about CA window tinting laws.

Front side windows: Aftermarket tint should be minimum of 88%, and at least 70% of visible light transmission with combined factory-tinted windows.

I think what you really want to know is if the ticket is a valid ticket even if you didn't sign it. Perhaps someone can give you that direct answer, but I suspect that it probably is since this seems to be a "fix it" ticket.

If it isn't a valid ticket or you are positive that the tint is legal. You can fight it and the ticket should have instructions on how to contest the ticket.

However, as others have said if the tint is illegal the only way to "fight it" is to remove the tint and get the ticket signed off.

A fixit ticket for window tint or other equipment violation (such as missing headlight expired tabs or no license plate parked on a public street) may be issued without contact with a driver or owner. The officer can simply run your plate or VIN number, then mail the ticket to the owner's home.
