Because if I didn't live in California I would have to live in some flyover cow pasture.

I love California. I am born and raised here and my family first came here in the 1850s. I love the variety of climates and scenery. The history of the state is fascinating. The food grown here is varied and delicious. Just about any field of employment is represented. There are great medical facilities. So many different cultures are here. I could go on and on...

CA is certainly not perfect, but it's perfect for me.

That's comfortable to me... in fact, I often describe that very town as my IDEAL climate! Mid-50s and 60s ALL YEAR ROUND? Yes please.

The concept of "comfortable/good weather" is a subjective one, and we all have our personal preferences.

Which part of California are you comparing to Arizona, Texas, and Florida (in terms of weather)? Palm Springs?? Even that would only compare to Arizona, since most of Texas and Florida have extreme humidity - which we thankfully don't have much of here in CA! And not to get all judgy, since I'm hardly rolling in dough myself; but if you're only one paycheck away from homelessness, that is a bigger problem you can't really blame on California. We tend to make more money here, so that should at least allow for a small cushion.

Now to answer the original question, I think most of the obvious reasons have been mentioned: Great climate, scenery, outdoor recreation, cultural diversity, and job opportunities. I also grew up here, so it's simply HOME to me. And I'm not afraid to admit that I love how liberal it is overall, at least here in the Bay Area. We have conservatives, of course, but they're more of the moderate and "reasonable" variety. At any rate, I'll probably relocate at some point, but for now I can't really get all of this anywhere else.

IMO the title should be why do people love California.

For me the biggest draw is the diversity and the resulting vibrancy. After moving to California I couldn't help but feel Taiwan is a pool of dead water.

Well yes, JC. But I named it as specific counterpoint to two pre-existing threads titled about “hate California” ... a bit of a play. Ok then?

Welcome to the forum.

Not really a fair comparison. Taiwan is a small-ish island. CA is huge! How many Taiwans could you fit into California? Also, Tiawan would be a little more diverse, if the aboriginal people had more opportunities. But, welcome to CA! Glad you like it.
