Hello everyone --- First a little about myself I am a 32yoa single female city employee. I have no children and I have my own home. I'm a newbie jewelry designer mostly 14kt gold necklace pendants. I'm sick of Wisconsin winters and I have always dreamed of moving to Los Angeles. I have given myself a window of about 3yrs to plan the move. My savings will be what I already have plus the proceeds from the sale of my home. Probably about 10k. I understand that I can go thru that pretty quickly. I have been told to stay away from Los Angeles the city and consider living in Los Angeles county. I have heard about the traffic jams so I would like to live and work close to my residence. I want to rent an apartment before considering buying a home. I could afford about $1,500.00 in rent. I was thinking about moving to Pasadena -- it seems close to downtown LA. I guess I want the best of both worlds close enough to the ocean but not too close (expensive) nice mountain views and year round warm temps. I visited relatives in Porterville. I liked the visit but found that it was way too hot for my tastes and no ocean but I did love the mountain scenery in the background. I loved Beverly Hills but obviously much too expensive (at least until my jewelry business gets off the grouond) I guess what I'm looking for is a safe, laid back, diversified community, cosmopolitan atmosphere w/ a little bit of glitz and glamour and good nite life. I have some college experience (junior level) and I'm not that interested in finding another civillian police related job but I know I need one until my business gets off the ground. I would like to work behind the scenes in the jewelry industry not just the sales clerk girl when you walk in. Can anyone give me some insider details about where to live and work in Pasadena or elsewhere in Southern California w/ limited income but still close to all the things I want to experience about California.

Pasadena sounds like a good area for you, but it can get hot there too, with average summer highs being over 90, which means during heat waves it can be 100+.

It definitely sounds like Pasadena is a great area for you, but you could maybe consider places in Ventura County, such as Ventura the city and Oxnard which are beach cities with mountain backdrops, same with Santa Barbara.

Research areas around those places mentioned and tell me if you like them. If so, I'll help you research some places. I'm telling you to do this because with your criteria, there are tons of places in SoCal to move to.
