- Food properly labeled with major food allergens
Observation: several foods imported from India and Nepal were observed to not have proper net contents disclosed on their label, in addition to the size font used for vital information such as ingredient statements and nutritional facts is nearly impossible to read due to the very small font size. Federal law requires that the font size shall be at least 1/16 of an inch tall and many of the small packaged products reviewed on the store shelf do not comply with that requirement.

Observation: foods such as "Fresh Sweets, New Punjab Sweets & Snacks" does not have an ingredient list or net contents. The label gives a phone number, Fax number and an address of 6411 N. Western Ave. Chicago, IL 60645. That is all that makes up the label for this product and is insufficient for proper labeling laws. All packaged foods shall have the Company name and address, the common name of the food packaged, a full list of ingredients, the net contents, and any cautionary statement such as declaring the common name of allergens. Net weight requires both standard measure and metric measure, count can be used, or volume in liquid can be referenced as pint, quart, gallon, etc. The common allergen must also be declared if present in the ingredients.
