Description: Located in the Chuckatuck section of Suffolk, Lone Star is a 1,063-acre wilderness park with 11 freshwater lakes, nature trails, picnic areas, a playground, a 4-mile horse trail, an archery range, a model airplane flying field, and a fishing and crabbing pier. The park is open from sunrise to sunset. No gasoline motors are allowed on the lakes, which are part of the region’s water supply reservoirs. Like in Newport News, you’ll need to complete a safety course before you can take to the archery range or the flying field. This is a freshwater fisherman’s paradise, but you’ll need a valid license. There’s a $4 per day fishing fee, $2 to use the archery range and the flying field, and $3 per person for horseback riding access. You can also buy annual permits.
