Description: This annual event is held in Cannon Beach on the second Saturday in June and draws sandcastle builders and spectators from all over Oregon. The event is held from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. and is limited to 150 participants organized into divisions by age, individual or team, and type of building implements used. Each individual or team is assigned a building plot and can use only natural materials such as rocks, seaweed, shells, and sticks to build their sandcastle.

Description: This community event is held in mid-October and is sponsored by the Surfsand Resort. You and your dog can participate in 14 events, such as cutest dog, oldest dog, biggest dog, and smallest dog. Others include Frisbee catch, best bark, an obstacle course race, best tail wag, the 25-yard doggy dash, obedience trials, best trick, a “so ugly you’re cute!” award, best costume, and a pet/owner look-alike contest. In addition to the events and awards ceremony is the auction/raffle and Parade of Champions at the day’s end. Proceeds go to the Clatsop County Animal Shelter.
3. Stormy Weather Arts Festival

Description: This festival celebrates drama, poetry, music, and artwork of Oregon artists at different locations in Cannon Beach. You can listen to hot country fiddles, classical piano music, or attend a variety of short plays. Another crowd pleaser is the Quick Draw Event where 14 artists have one hour to paint and frame their artwork in front of an audience. The art is then sold by auction. This festival is held the second weekend in November. Call ahead for event times, ticket prices, and locations.
